Aims & Scope
“Athena: Philosophical Studies†is an international Open Access, peer-reviewed academic journal issued by the Department of Contemporary Philosophy of the Lithuanian Culture Research Institute in Vilnius.
The journal was founded in 2006 to discuss new philosophical ideas, topics, and methodologies emerging in the context of contemporary philosophy.
Every volume of the journal is dedicated to a different philosophical theme which is announced for potential contributors in advance. “Athena: Philosophical Studies†has dedicated special issues to such topics as new materialism, the question of the animal, the Anthropocene, philosophy of technology, biopolitics, and others, and featured such important figures as Emmanuel Levinas, Michel Foucault, and Jacques Derrida.
The journal also publishes translations of the original texts, book reviews, and the overview of academic life.
The submissions are subject to double-blind peer-review by two scholars but the final decision to publish rests with the editors.
