Aims & Scope
Music Theory and Analysis (MTA) is a peer-reviewed, international, English-language journal focusing on recent developments in music theory and analysis.
Special emphasis is placed on the interplay between theory and analysis, as well as on the interaction between European and North-American scholarship.
Open to a wide variety of repertoires, approaches, and methodologies, the journal aims to stimulate dialogue between diverse traditions within the field.
While MTA’s primary focus is on peer-reviewed articles (ca. 5,000–12,000 words), the editors welcome submissions in the following formats as well: -Analytical vignettes (peer-reviewed)- Colloquiums (a collection of peer-reviewed articles or vignettes addressing a certain theme)- Contributions to the pedagogy of music theory and analysis (peer-reviewed)- Translations on and commentaries of historical sources (peer-reviewed)- Peer-reviewed review-articles (classic book reviews are by invitation only)
