Aims & Scope
Afrika und Übersee is a premier academic journal dedicated to the dissemination of research on African languages and their social and historical contexts. Since 1910, it has been a leading platform for scholars to share their findings and contribute to the field of African studies.
The journal covers a broad range of topics within linguistics, with a particular focus on publishing primary linguistic data and in-depth analyses. As the oldest academic journal for African studies worldwide, Afrika und Übersee is published by the Department of African Languages and Ethiopian Studies in the Asien-Afrika-Institut at Universität Hamburg.
The journal accepts articles in English, French, and German, with the user interface available only in English. Authors submitting articles in languages other than English must provide metadata in both languages, including title, abstract, and keywords.
