本刊出版的宗旨就在于介绍国内外关于地震工程的先进的科学技术，促进海内外地震工程领域的学术交流，推动我国地震工程科学研究的发展，为我国防震抗震工作服务。 该刊主要报道国外国内抗震验算；地震工程实践论述；强震观测与分析；土木基础设施的地震危险性分析；场地效应和岩土地震工程；建筑物与生命线系统的抗震性能和设计原理；结构控制技术和性能材料在结构反应控制中的应用；结构健康诊断的理论和实践；抗震设计规范、标准；土木建筑、道桥以及水利等工程方面的振动问题。
