SYLWAN jest najstarszym w Polsce leśnym czasopismem naukowym, jednym z pierwszych na świecie.

Został założony w 1820 roku w Warszawie.

Przyczynił się w znakomity sposób do rozwoju polskiego leśnictwa, służąc postępowi, upowszechnieniu wiedzy leśnej oraz rozwojowi nauki.
