本刊为中国科技论文统计源期刊，中文核心期刊，被美国“工程索引（EI）compendex”，英国 “科学文摘（SA）”，美国“剑桥科学文摘（CSA）”，俄罗斯“文摘杂志（AJ）”，日本“日本科学技术社数据库（JST）”，荷兰“斯高帕斯（Scopus）数据库”收录。本刊特色是集学术研究、技术研发与工程应用于一体的综合性的科技期刊，主要刊登国内光学、光电子及交叉学科的学术论文与工程研究报告，集中反映了我国光学工程及光电技术在航空、航天等国防工业，以及国民经济各个领域的工程应用水平。40多年来，本刊连续被评为天津市一级期刊，2012年和2014年被评为“中国国际影响力优秀学术期刊”。本刊常设栏目包括红外技术与应用，激光与光电子技术应用，先进光学，光学遥感、空间探测，光电器件与材料，光通信与光传感，光电测量，太赫兹技术，光谱成像，光学图像识别及信息处理等。
