Scientific Advances in Hydrobiology: Taxonomic, genetic, and functional biodiversity in aquatic ecosystems; Systematic, taxonomy, and biology of aquatic organisms (fauna, flora, microorganisms, and all living species in the aquatic environment); Aquatic community assembly and distribution; Aquatic ecosystem processes and functioning; Environmental biogeochemistry; Microbial ecology; Aquatic–terrestrial interactions, i.e., inter-connections among terrestrial, inland aquatic, and marine ecosystems; Aquatic biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, with a focus on the functional consequences of biodiversity loss; Aquatic food webs and biotic interactions in planktonic and benthic communities; Eco-physiological responses to stressors; Ecological responses to global change, including climate change; Impacts of multiple stressors; Mechanistic understanding across scales (molecular-, population-, community-, and ecosystem-level); Aquatic ecotoxicology, including the risks posed by emerging contaminants (e.g., nanoparticles, micro- and nanoplastics, pharmaceuticals).
