办刊宗旨：坚持党的四项基本原则，执行党和国家有关科技与出版的各项政策，贯彻“百花齐放，百家争鸣”的方针。推动用现代科学理论指导复杂性科学的研究，传播复杂性科学方面有创造性的最新研究成果，促进学术交流，为提高我国复杂性科学研究水平做出贡献。 主要发表复杂系统与复杂性科学在不同领域的最新理论及应用研究成果，也适当刊登综述与评论、学术动态等文章。现已成为国内外以下数据库的信息源期刊：中国科学引文数据库；中国核心期刊（遴选）数据库；中国学术期刊综合评价数据库；中国期刊全文数据库；中文科技期刊数据库等。
