Aims & Scope

The Ceylon Medical Journal (CMJ) is published by the Sri Lanka Medical Association, one of the oldest medical associations in the Asian region.

The Ceylon Medical Journal is the oldest surviving medical journal in Australasia.

It was started in 1887 as the Journal of the Ceylon Branch of the British Medical Association.

Except for a period between 1893 and 1904 when it ceased publication, the CMJ or its forbear, has been published without interruption up to now.

The journal’s name changed to the Ceylon Medical Journal in 1954.

The Ceylon Medical Journal's mission is to stimulate, encourage and empower doctors, researchers and other health professionals to publish high quality research in order to promote evidence based medicine and improve health care.

The Ceylon Medical Journal is an open access, peer-reviewed journal.
