Aims & Scope

The Australasian Journal of Disaster and Trauma Studies (AJDTS) is an open-access, peer-reviewed electronic journal for collating and distributing original research into social aspects of natural hazards, disasters and related psychological trauma, with a focus on Australasia.

The Australasian Journal of Disaster and Trauma Studies has been publishing research and commentaries on social aspects of natural hazards, disasters and disaster-related trauma for academic and advanced practitioner audiences since 1997.

The journal is hosted by the School of Psychology at New Zealand’s Massey University.

It is managed by the Joint Centre for Disaster Research, which is a collaboration between Massey University and GNS Science.

This journal recognises the multi-disciplinary nature of research and practice into social dimensions of disasters and disaster-related trauma.

It seeks to attract contributions from academics and practitioners from diverse professional backgrounds, including mental health, physical and geological sciences, social sciences, and health and welfare services.

Consequently, the journal not only welcomes contributions which represent specific professional and organisational interests, but also multi-disciplinary articles and reviews demonstrating a more holistic response to disaster and trauma management.

The role of Masters and Doctoral students in this context is also recognised.

It is intended that the journal will provide an inviting opportunity for them to publish their valuable contributions.

Manuscripts accepted for submission are peer reviewed by leading scholars throughout the English-speaking world.

The journal uses a blind peer review process, to ensure that each manuscript is judged on its own merits, and on the value of the research contained.
